Tub (aka Tubbie)

Tub’s story started on the streets of Grenada alongside his brother, Brownie. I would see the two of them together often, and over time I began feeding them and gaining their trust. Like so many street dogs on the island, they were just trying to survive each day.

One day, I noticed Tub was no longer bearing weight on his left hind leg. Watching him struggle to move around the streets made it clear that he needed help. I took both brothers in, and they were neutered, vaccinated, and finally able to experience safety and consistent care.

Because of Tub’s tibial fracture, he needed a foster home while his leg healed, so I decided to take him in. What was supposed to be a temporary situation quickly became much more than that. During his recovery, Tub was also diagnosed with chronic tapeworms and a tick-borne illness, both of which required treatment and time to overcome.

One month slowly turned into five.

Over that time, Tub transformed completely. The dog who once struggled to survive on the streets became a happy, loving dog who slept in bed, played with toys, and learned what it felt like to truly be part of a family. Watching him recover — not just physically, but emotionally — was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

His leg healed beautifully, and eventually Tub was healthy enough to make the journey to the United States, where he was welcomed by a rescue and ultimately found his forever home.

Tub’s story is a reminder of how resilient rescue dogs truly are.
